Civano 10th Anniversary Neighborhood Celebration

The community of Civano in SE Tucson celebrated their 10th Anniversary this weekend with a solar home tour, crafts, speakers, music, and more. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was the special guest for the ribbon cutting for the  Pepper-Viner/BASF high-performance home that was scheduled today.

The home tour featured 5 homes and a school all located in Civano. The homes showed off  such green features as solar ovens, straw bale construction, solar evaporative cooler, a cooling tower,  and  rammed earth construction.

The solar oven temperature reaches about 350 - 375 degrees and is large enough to roast a turkey.

The fair also had booths featuring green building materials, arts and crafts made by the community and information about the community.
