Tucson has quite a few community centers that offer exercise facilities, swimming pools, sports, health and wellness programs, recreation, a variety of classes, childcare, and more. Some of the popular community centers are The JCC, Tucson Racquet Club, and the YMCA, which I’ll be focusing on here. These community centers offer memberships to anyone in the Tucson community. Wouldn’t it be convenient to live close to one of these community centers to be able to access their amenities easily and frequently?

The JCC
The Jewish Community Center, more popularly known as The JCC or ‘The J’ is a community center that is open to all faiths and backgrounds. In fact, their membership is is comprised of about 49% Jewish members and 51% non-Jewish members.
The JCC is a 110,000 square foot space that was built in 1989, remodeled in 2015, and serves about 5,000 members. The center offers childcare both after school and babysitting for those using the facilities. Many adult programs like cooking classes and other seminars are offered. The fitness facility has won “Best of Tucson” in the Tucson Weekly fitness category for a few years in a row. The center also includes a pool and splash pad.
The JCC is located in north part of Tucson at Alvernon Way and Dodge, which is centrally located for many residents. Located just north of the Rillito River and sandwiched between Brandi Fenton Memorial Park and George Mehl Foothills Park, it’s a great location for all sorts of activities along the Loop. The Loop is a network of 120 miles of paved multi-use paths.

The Tucson Racquet Club
The Tucson Racquet Club was established in 1967. The club caters to all types of racquets including tennis, racquetball and pickleball. But sports that require racquets are just the start, the center also offers exercise classes, 2 heated pools, basketball and volleyball courts, weight room, jacuzzi, and a sauna. There are even 2 restaurants on site. With all that offered, you may never have to leave!
The Tucson Racquet Club is located on Country Club, north of Prince. It is bordered by the Rillito River to the north, and the other 3 sides are surrounded by homes and townhomes. So it shouldn’t be too hard to find a home within walking distance of the Racquet Club. This location is also convenient to the Loop which makes it great for bicyclists, walkers, and joggers alike. What a great location for an active lifestyle!

The YMCA
If you’re of a certain age, you probably sang that heading (I know I did!) and maybe you even felt compelled to do the dance (you know you want to). YMCAs have swimming pools, weight rooms, after school programs for children, and lots of other programs that vary by location. Membership at the Y is transferable to other locations too. So if you’re a part-time Tucson resident, this could be a great option for you! Tucson has 5 YMCA locations.
Lighthouse YMCA
The Lighthouse YMCA is located in midtown Tucson, near Fort Lowell and Columbus. It is adjacent to McCormick Park and surrounded by residential neighborhoods which makes it easy to find a home within walking distance. McCormick Park has basketball courts, grassy ball fields, ramadas, and shaded playground equipment.

Ott Family YMCA
The Ott Family YMCA is located on the east side of Tucson near Prudence and Broadway. It is bordered by Stefan Gollob Park and surrounded by residential neighborhoods for convenient access. Stefan Gollob Park is a small park with baseball fields and tennis courts.

Lohse Family YMCA
Lohse Family YMCA is located in downtown Tucson, near Stone and Alameda across from Joel Valdez Main Library. This location is the most urban of all the community centers in Tucson. This location works well for people who live and/or work in the downtown area.

Northwest YMCA
Northwest YMCA is located near Shannon and Magee. This Y is located next to Ann Day Community Park and adjacent to Pima Community College NW campus. Ann Day Community Park is a park with a natural desert setting with grassy ball fields for baseball and soccer as well as a dog park.
