Description of South Tucson
The south part of Tucson is a blend of residential neighborhoods, combined with industrial areas and commercial properties. Many types of housing are available in the area including single family homes, townhouses, and manufactured or mobile homes. The south part of Tucson has some of the most affordable homes in Tucson.
The post war years brought a lot of production builders, looking to build more affordable homes for returning GIs. Home building has continued in present times. The more affordable land prices allow folks to purchase more home for their money than other areas of Tucson.
Aerospace Industry
Tucson is known as an aerospace center, and south Tucson is in the middle of it with Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson International Airport, Air National Guard, Raytheon, and Bombardier all within the South Tucson location.

Public Parks and Recreation
There’s quite a few public parks with ball fields and playgrounds in the area including: Silverlake Park, Rodeo Park, and Mission Manor Park.
Kino Sports Complex
Kino Sports Complex includes the Kino Veteran’s Memorial Stadium as well as several other ball fields for baseball and soccer. There are tentative plans to build an ice rink in the area in the future. That expansion will also include adding shops, restaurants, and hotels to the area.
The Loop Multi-Use Path
The Loop is a car-free, 130-mile long walking/biking path that touches most areas of Tucson. In the south part of Tucson, the loop is located along Julian Wash, and branches off toward the Kino Sports Complex.
Tucson Rodeo Grounds
The La Fiesta de los Vaqueros Tucson Rodeo and Rodeo Parade are hosted here each year in February. The tradition has been going strong for nearly 100 years in Tucson.
Casino
Desert Diamond Casino is located in the area. The casino features a hotel and pool.
Shopping
Shopping, restaurants, and services are located along 4th Avenue, 6th Avenue, 12th Avenue, and Valencia Road.
Museums
Pima Air and Space Museum is located in the area. It’s a fun place to explore with kids and history buffs alike!
Area Healthcare and Hospitals
The Tucson VA Hospital and Banner University Medical Center South are both located in the southern part of Tucson.
South Tucson Schools
Tucson Unified School District and Sunnyside Unified School District are the two school districts that service the area.
