About Hill Farm
Hill Farm is a beautiful, peaceful neighborhood centered around a large pond near the Fort Lowell historic district, offering rare lake front property in the heart of the Sonoran Desert.
Hill Farm has over 100 homes which were built in the 1980s with a mixture of masonry and stucco. Most are single story, but there’s a few 2-story homes as well. They are typically between 2-4 bedrooms and usually between 1600-3000 square feet. Each home includes an attached 2-car garage.
Location
Hill Farm is located adjacent the Fort Lowell historic district, north of Fort Lowell Road between Craycroft Road and Swan Road. It’s a convenient, central location in Tucson. It’s close to Tucson Medical Center, Fort Lowell Park, and Plaza Palomino. It also offers convenient access to The Loop, a paved path for bicyclists and pedestrians. It’s about 6 miles from the University of Arizona and about 8 miles from downtown Tucson.

Hill Farm Amenities
Hill Farm offers a community clubhouse, which the community refers to as the Farmhouse. The farmhouse was originally the Hill family home. It was designed by Josias Joesler, one of Tucson’s most well-known architects who designed many homes and commercial buildings in Tucson from the late 1920s until his death in 1956. The neighborhood developers wisely chose to incorporate the beautiful burnt adobe farmhouse into the design of the neighborhood, rather than tear it down.
The community pool and spa are located just behind the farmhouse, which includes a nice patio space complete with a BBQ grill. And just beyond the clubhouse, there’s a kid’s play structure.
Hill Farm HOA
The neighborhood does have an active Homeowner’s Association. The HOA takes care of maintaining common areas throughout the neighborhood, including the farmhouse, pool, and spa.
History of Hill Farm Neighborhood
The Hill family sold their land sometime before 1981. The neighborhood was subdivided and construction began in 1981 by The Akins Company of California, who built about 20 homes. Akins Company went bankrupt soon after. The remainder of the homes were built by Tom Doucette’s company, Doucette Homes. Doucette had worked for Akins Company, but became a prolific home builder in his own right.
Doucette Homes built several other desirable communities in Southern Arizona including portions of Civano, portions of La Paloma, the Presidio at Williams Centre, and Academy Village in Vail, Arizona.
Film Location
The Joesler designed Farmhouse was one of the filming locations for the 1987 teenage movie “Can’t Buy Me Love” starring Patrick Dempsey and Amanda Peterson. Patrick Dempsey’s character was hired to cut the lawn of Amanda Peterson’s character’s family home. Other Tucson filming locations for the movie include Tucson High School, Tucson Mall, and the airplane boneyard at Davis Monthan. If you haven’t seen it before, it’s worth a watch.

Close to Hill Farm
The Loop
The Chuck Huckleberry Loop is a 130-mile long paved path open to pedestrians and cyclists. The Hill Farm neighborhood has direct access to the Loop through a trail that leads from the adjoining Bosque Creek neighborhood, just to the north.
Head east on the Loop for about 2.2 miles to Fort Lowell Park. Head west on the Loop to get to Brandi Fenton Park, about 2.8 miles away.
Plaza Palomino
Plaza Palomino is a unique shopping plaza with a quaint courtyard featuring several local restaurants and shops. There’s a bit of everything here including: Vero Amore, serving up Neapolitan pizza, Flying Leap Vineyards tasting room, La Placita Café, Le Buzz Caffe, Trident Grill II, Maya Palace, Green Monkey Boutique, and more.
San Pedro Chapel
The neighborhood is located across the street from the San Pedro Chapel. The chapel was built in 1932, over the ruins of a previous church. The previous church had been destroyed in a rare tornado. In 1948 the chapel ceased serving it’s parishioners. Nowadays, the chapel can be rented for private parties, weddings, seminars, classes, and many other neighborhood or community events.
Public Schools servicing Hill Farm
Hill Farm is located within the Tucson Unified School District, serviced by Whitmore Elementary School, Doolen Middle School, and Catalina High School. A private school called The Gregory School Is located nearby as well.
