The Loop multi-use path
The Loop is a multi-use car-free path that’s about 130+ miles long. It’s open to walkers, joggers, and bicyclists of all skill levels. For direct access from the neighborhood just head north on Cactus Boulevard.
Head east on The Loop about 0.6 miles to get to the Tucson Racquet Club. Further East will take you to Brandi Fenton Park which is about 1.7 miles east of the neighborhood.
St Philips Plaza is a short 1.5 mile car-free walk or bike ride away. You’ll want to head east on the loop, then cross the Rillito River bridge. Once on the north bank, you’ll want to head west towards Campbell Avenue. St Philips Plaza has a bike/pedestrian entrance at the loop just before Campbell Avenue.
Treat Avenue Bike Boulevard
The neighborhood is located on a bike boulevard. Head south on Cactus Boulevard, which quickly changes names to Treat Avenue, which is a popular bike boulevard that runs all the way south to Aviation Parkway. Bike Boulevards are residential streets with a much lower volume of motorized traffic than the major roads. They have HAWK ( which stands for High-Intensity Activated crossWalK) crossings to stop traffic at major streets like Prince Rd, Fort Lowell Rd, Grant Rd, Speedway Blvd, etc.
The Treat Avenue bike boulevard eventually intersects with the 3rd Street bike boulevard in the Sam Hughes neighborhood. Heading west on the 3rd Street bike boulevard will take you to the University of Arizona campus.
St Philips Plaza
St Philips Plaza is a picturesque destination with several local restaurants, a local coffee shop, and lots of other retail shops. There’s a large shared patio with a stage for live musical performances. The plaza also hosts a popular farmers market on weekends.
Rio Vista Natural Resource Park
The townhomes are built adjacent to the Rio Vista Natural Resource Park which is a public park about 35 acres in size. It features a large grassy field, a shaded playground, picnic tables, restrooms, a walking path, benches, and a garden. Because there is horse property in the vicinity, you may see some folks on horseback too.
The Rio Vista Park also connects to The Loop bike path and there’s a lovely little garden with an inviting shade structure located there.
Tucson Racquet Club
Nearby is Tucson Racquet Club which is a private fitness club with 27 tennis courts, 22 pickleball courts, 11 racquetball/handball courts, swimming, fitness classes, and sports camps for kids. They also have a restaurant and bar that’s open to the public.
Close to Winterhaven neighborhood
The Winterhaven neighborhood is located about 1 mile to the south of the Tamarisk Townhomes. It hosts an annual holiday light festival which has been a holiday tradition for decades.
