Arizona home builder Miramonte Homes recently built 13 new townhomes in downtown Tucson in the historic Barrio Viejo neighborhood. The masonry homes were built between 2020 and 2024 at Meyer Avenue between Simpson Street and Kennedy Street, on what was previously 5 long-time vacant lots. You Cannot Beat the Location of Miramonte Barrio Viejo
Barrio Viejo is one of the most walkable areas of Tucson. It’s located a block south of the Tucson Convention Center and the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall in Downtown Tucson, within easy walking distance to downtown businesses, restaurants, nightlife, and museums.
Barrio Viejo specifically was recently chosen as one of the top 52 Places to Go in 2023 list by the New York Times, and featured in Conde Nast Traveler as one of the Best Places to Go in North America & the Caribbean in 2024.
Great spots within Barrio Viejo
Located adjacent to the neighborhood is Exo Roast, a cozy local coffee shop housed in an old adobe building with a charming courtyard.
Teatro Carmen is a half a block away. The historic theater is undergoing a much anticipated restoration, led by Herb Stratford, who lead the fantastic restoration of Tucson’s Fox Theatre. It will house a performance space as well as a restaurant and bar complete with an outdoor patio.
The Coronet and the Meyer Avenue Cafe is a great neighborhood spot to meet friends for brunch or dinner and cocktails. This cozy eatery also hosts a variety of live musicians frequently, in fact we recently saw a wonderful show with Naim Amor joined by John Convertino of Calexico.
Tucson Streetcar
The Tucson Streetcar stop is nearby at Granada, across from the Tucson Convention Center. It is a 4-mile route that takes passengers to the Mercado District, Downtown Tucson, 4th Avenue, Main Gate Square, University of Arizona, and University Medical Center.
The Chuck Huckleberry Loop
It’s also close to The Loop a 130-mile multi-use path that circles the city and is popular with bicyclists and joggers/walkers.
Easy access to I-10 and I-19
And it’s conveniently located near both I-10 and I-19, for those trips out of town.

Design of Miramonte Barrio Viejo townhomes
There are 3 floor plans to choose from. They range in size from 1,706 to 2,154 square feet. Each home has 2-stories with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a 1-car garage, and an enclosed courtyard. All units feature an open kitchen adjacent to the great room. The master bedroom suite is on the ground floor in all 3 plans.
The homes are solid masonry construction with synthetic stucco. They are well insulated and qualify for a HERS rating for energy efficiency. Each home includes 16 SEER zoned HVAC.
The HOA covers common area maintenance as well as an annual permit for street parking.
Designed to blend with the historic architecture in Barrio Viejo
The Miramonte Barrio Viejo townhomes have been designed to blend with the historic Sonoran row house and territorial style architecture of the Barrio Viejo area. The garages face inward, allowing for the homes to be closer to the lot line, similar to traditional Sonoran row house architecture. The interior of the neighborhood features a private street constructed of pavers to access the garage spaces.
Locally designed
Lanning Architecture, a Tucson-based architecture firm, designed the project. Because the land is within the Barrio Historico Historic Zone, the design process took significantly longer to get the needed approval from the historic zone. The original plan of 15 units, designed by another architect called for 15 units but, ultimately was not approved.
